Who is entitled to ENFIA reductions and exemptions?

Homeowners have until November 30 to submit corrections to E9 statements so that their ENFIA taxes can be recalculated

Newsroom November 4 08:14

Property owners recently received their joint property tax (ENFIA) clearances electronically. Those who were able to have already payed the first of six installments with the estimation of the tax based on E9 statements lodged in the previous year. In many cases, there were mistakes made in the calculations and in other cases there were omissions as discounts and other reductions weren’t calculated.

Many of the mistakes were due to taxpayers mistakes when filling out their E9 statements. In such cases, taxpayers need to electronically supply corrections by November 30, 2014, in which case there will be no consequences.

Those who are exempt from paying ENFIA are homeowners from Kefalonia, Fthiotida and Fokida due to damage created to their homes in the earthquakes of January 2014 and August 2013. They need to supply relevant paperwork showing that their homes have been affected. Public buildings are also exempt from paying ENFIA.

Those entitled to a 20% reduction to ENFIA are homeowners who have vacant buildings that were empty and cut off from electricity for the whole of 2013. Taxpayers living abroad are not entitled to the 20% reduction to ENFIA.

Payments can be postponed for a year in certain cases and there can as much as 50% reduction for vulnerable groups in cases where the total wages for the previous year aren’t over 9,000 euros per annum and an additional 1,000 euros for every dependent member of the family.
