PM Samaras: “SYRIZA is forcing the word Grexit, back into the mouths of foreigners”

In his address to the New Democracy parliamentary group

Newsroom December 11 02:38

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras verbally attacked SYRIZA’s opposition party, while addressing the New Democracy party Parliamentary Group, saying that “SYRIZA is forcing the word Grexit, back into the mouths of foreigners”.

The Prime Minister said that: “We managed to get the country out of the toughest crisis it has ever experienced, and now some people are threatening to bring the crisis back. The whole parliament has political responsibility. Some questioned the statistics pointing to primary surpluses, and said we would exit the markets. Now we are exiting the memorandum, and they have failed in all their estimates. now they do something even worse: They try to openly thwart the country’s success. They will not be successful”.

Mr. Samaras said that the government is successful and that even Europe and the Eurogroup’s decision has recently accepted the fact. “Europe made a decision to support us with a credit line that will allow us to borrow. We need to end the final evaluation. We are close and without taking unneeded measures, we can go all the way, without stifling growth”. Mr. Samaras also reiterated that: “SYRIZA constantly cites polls but forgets the most basic of measures, which is that the people do not want to cut off progress and turn us back around. This attitude shows that the people understand, and will punish whoever drags the country to early elections”.

The PM warned that a “prolonged electoral period means paralysis for the country”.

Continuing his attack on SYRIZA, Mr. Samaras said: “We were told by SYRIZA that they have an alternative policy framework. They finally submitted a program that was questioned by their own people who said they propose new tears, new bloodshed for the country. They went to London a few days ago. Why didn’t they just stay here? The moment that foreign investors found out what they plan, they turned tail and ran. All this while they were proclaiming that they will not vote for a President of the Republic, blackmailing other Parliament members”.

The Prime Minister explained that he took the decision to accelerate the election of a President since: “This whole matter created political instability and damaged the country and its exiting the memorandum. The cloud that had been created led some of the lenders to ask for impossible things. Everyone knows that SYRIZA wants to break relations with Europe and lead Greece to a crisis that can transfer over to Europe”.
