ND cautions calm following exit polls, waiting for results

The ND government believes that the exit polls are not conclusive

Newsroom January 25 07:55

The conservative New Democracy party is cautioning calm ahead of the final election count. Exit polls show a hefty SYRIZA lead, however, party sources state that these are yet to be confirmed.

“They are indicative and not the result,” said ND government spokesperson and MEP Maria Spyraki. “We need to wait.”

Abstention reaches record level in Sept. 20 election

First intl media reactions to SYRIZA win

Spyraki said the level of abstention needs to be assessed, while she stressed that outgoing ND government is standing firm to “guarantee the future of the country.”

SPYRAKIS

Unnamed ND sources, earlier noted that “exit polls give SYRIZA a lead, and we don’t doubt this, however, we need to stress that previous exit poll counts such as the regional elections with (SYRIZA Prefect of the Attica Region, Rena) Ms. Dourou had been a far cry from the final result. We don’t know the difference and need to wait. We state that there is a different research from Kapa Research where ND is from 25-28%, SYRIZA at 33.5-27%. We are waiting to see the numbers before drawing a conclusion concerning votes that the party lost since the previous elections. Many voters abstained.”
