All you need to know about SYRIZA's economic team

Four key SYRIZA economists with a clear European outlook

Newsroom January 26 11:56

Four key figures with a clear European predisposition will be called on to manage the complex situation in the Greek economy and the high-risk negotiations SYRIZA has promised with Greece’s international creditors for years.

The “primus inter pares” amongst SYRIZA’s top economic strategists is MP Yannis Dragasakis, who is responsible for forming the core of the party’s fiscal program. He studied political and economic sciences in Athens and London, with a masters in economics from the London School of Economics.

Yiorgos Stathakis served as SYRIZA’s interlocutor with global fund managers and media representatives.

Euclides Tsakalotos is one of the top economic cadres for SYRIZA, and part of its economist policy platform authors.

Yannis Varoufakis is perhaps the most well-known of economists featured by the party, given his prolific use of social media and exposure in international media. As he, himself, has admitted, if it wasn’t for the crisis he would be unknown, focusing on his research into game theory and the economy.
