Anastasios Karadimitris is a Greek professor of hematology at the Imperial College of London. The professor and his research team came up with an innovative idea to fight cancer. They believe that the development of their idea could be the next generation of cutting-edge immunotherapy treatments, where the immune cells would be ”programmed” to kill cancer.

The team created a genetically engineered version of a cell that is created at a much lower price than the patient-personalized ones that are used now and can be mass-produced to be used on multiple patients instead of just one at a time.

The research showed that these cells managed to eliminate every cancer cell in 60 percent of the mice used in the experiments, with 90 percent of them being able to survive long-term.

“Cancer researchers and doctors are very excited about this therapy; it means that instead of talking to patients about a hospice, we can offer them a treatment that has a good chance of working,” Karadimitris told Kate Wighton from Science Daily portal.
