PM Tsipras and ND leader Mitsotakis vote

Both said it was a good day for democracy

Newsroom May 26 04:21

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras cast his ballot at the Kypseli polling station in Athens in the morning.

“Today is a beautiful day of Democracy that people decide. It is also a day of responsibility for the many, of everyone to defend the sacrifices and efforts, to ratify, approve, protect the path of economic recovery, and measures to support the economy and not allow anyone, the next day to take them back”, the PM said.

Meanwhile, the president of the major opposition party, New Democracy (ND), Kyriakos Mitsotakis also exercised his democratic duty at a Kifisia polling station. Accompanied by his wife, Maeva, Mr Mitsotakis said: “Today is a very beautiful, very sunny day for our Republic. I am glad to see great participation in the electoral process. I want to thank the electoral committees, the judicial representatives, who support this democratic process of the elections. We do not have much to say today. Today the citizens have their say. I absolutely trust their judgment and I am sure that tomorrow a new bright day will dawn upon our country”, the president of New Democracy said.
