Azerbaijan: Strong explosion in the Caspian Sea – Watch shocking videos

The phenomenon of underground gas explosions is quite common in the Caspian Sea and causes columns of fire reminiscent of a volcanic eruption

Newsroom July 5 11:25

A powerful explosion rocked Azerbaijan’s offshore area near the headquarters of the state-owned natural gas company Socar.

The eruption of a mud volcano, as it is called, took place in the Caspian Sea, where the phenomenon of underground gas eruptions is quite common and causes columns of fire reminiscent of a volcanic eruption.

Instead of lava, however, flammable gas comes out along with the mud that is swept away by the underground explosion.
