Earthquake in Crete: The Google application that warned the people (photos)

The quake, according to the Geodynamic Institute, had a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale and was centered on the sea

Newsroom December 29 12:46

Residents of Crete woke up on Wednesday morning (29/12) by a notification from a Google application and an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale.

Several residents received a message, via the Android Earthquake Alerts service, and were informed of the strong seismic vibration just seconds before it occurred.

It is worth noting that Greece is the first European country to which the service has been extended. It is also available in New Zealand and Washington.
