Boris Johnson apologizes to Elizabeth for the party before Philip’s funeral

When parties were held at the prime minister's residence, there was a ban on gathering indoors, and the next day, amid national mourning

Newsroom January 14 06:01

Downing Street apologized to Buckingham Palace for the two parties that took place at the prime minister’s residence, before the funeral of Prince Philip. The parties took place on April 16, 2021 and continued until the early morning hours, as revealed by the “Daily Mail” newspaper, putting Boris Johnson in a difficult position.

According to the BBC, a spokesman for the British Prime Minister said: “It is unfortunate that this happened at a time of national mourning”.

The Johnson administration was forced to apologize to Queen Elizabeth following the even more serious revelation of two simultaneous parties at different parts of the prime minister’s residence, the day before Prince Philip’s funeral, with the country in mourning.

The new revelations, and even from the pro-government newspaper Daily Telegraph, concern two parties with drinks amid restrictions against the coronavirus last April at number 10 Downing Street, even without the presence of Mr. Johnson himself.

On April 16, when parties were held at the prime minister’s residence, there was a ban on gathering indoors, and the next day, amid national mourning, the funeral of the queen’s dead husband took place. Boris Johnson was at his cottage.

Former Prime Minister’s director of communications James Slack has issued a statement apologizing for the incidents, for which he assumes full responsibility, in order to remove any stain from the prime minister himself.

However, the opposition insists that the incidents highlight the culture that Mr. Johnson has introduced to the prime minister and his office, defying not only the laws of the state but also the moral laws.
