Coronavirus measures – Tests for students and Covid passes scrapped

The measures will be re-evaluated in September

Newsroom April 12 09:51

Greek authorities are in the process of gradually lifting the remaining coronavirus restrictions imposed in the last three months.

The Infectious Committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow to finalise the timetable for the “liberation” from the measures launched by the fifth epidemic wave, based on the relevant proposal submitted by the Ministry of Health, as well as other ministries, especially that of Tourism and Development.

The Committee will draw up a roadmap based on the proposals submitted by the Ministry of Health with the scientists expected to submit their final recommendations with announcements by the Minister of Health, most likely tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

“What has been under consideration by the Committee for the past two weeks, and there is an initial attitude of the members, is, going into the summer to look at a comprehensive framework for access to the sites, possibly without a vaccination certificate, but with some other conditions,” Thanos Plevris said yesterday in a TV interview (SKAI).

From May Day and for the next four months the basic measures that are still in effect, namely the demonstration of vaccination and disease certificates in a number of venues and activities and the mandatory diagnostic tests for coronavirus in some groups of the population, such as students, will be suspended and reviewed next September.

As far as the Covid mask is concerned, it is considered less of a restriction and mainly a measure of personal protection. Experts are very cautious about not using a mask especially indoors or where there is congestion. “We can be more cautious with masks, there is no need to make quick moves,” the Minister of Health said yesterday about the government’s position on the value and protection of the mask.
