Biden – Mitsotakis common statements at the White House (videos-photos) (Upd.3)

The agenda included international and regional issues, while Kyriakos Mitsotakis also raised the issue of Turkish provocations

Newsroom May 16 10:26

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is paying his second visit to the White House, after that during the presidency of Donald Trump, in January 2020.

The agenda of the meeting includes bilateral issues Greece – US, but also the war in Ukraine.

The agenda also included international and regional issues, while Kyriakos Mitsotakis also raised the issue of Turkish provocations.

Energy also was very high on the agenda, as Greece seeks to become the hub for gas and clean energy transport from the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean to the Balkans and Southeastern Europe and to actively contribute to Europe’s independence from Russian natural gas and oil and in diversifying energy routes.

The Greek delegation, in addition to the Prime Minister, consists of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Education Minister Niki Kerameos and Deputy Foreign Ministers Costas Frangogiannis and government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou.

They are mainly concerned, as government sources point out, with the recognition of the role that Greece plays as a stable and reliable ally of the United States and the West in general in the region of Southeastern Europe.

Giving the insight of the Greek aspirations, associates of the Prime Minister emphasize that “Kyriakos Mitsotakis does not travel to the American capital just to complain to Joe Biden about the provocative behavior of our neighbor and to ask to punish them”.

Obviously, in the bilateral talks of the two sides, “all the necessary remarks will be made but also the necessary complaints will be made” they note.

They stress, however, that “the diplomatic weapons that the Greek delegation intends to use will not be exhausted on these issues.”
