Turkey says Greece is deluded to dream of the revival of a Roman Empire or Byzantium

The Turkish Defence Ministry accused the Greek Foreign Minister of expansionist ideas

Newsroom May 30 03:17

In a Tweet referring to a post by the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on the anniversary of the Fall of Constantinople on May 29, 1453, the Turkish Ministry of Defence responded: “It is a delusion to look at Constantinople, which was conquered 569 years ago, dreaming of the Roman Empire or Byzantium”.

The Turkish Ministry of Defence made a series of posts, incorrectly attributing expansionist aspirations to Dendias, at a time when he limited himself to expressing grief over the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque and the vandalism of the Imperial Gate.

“A dismal day for our national memory. Today, the conversion of Hagia Sophia, a World Heritage Site, into a mosque, like the vandalism of the Imperial Gate, saddens anyone who respects history,” the Greek foreign minister wrote.

With a barrage of posts, the Turkish ministry says that “1 ⃣ Looking at Constantinople, which was conquered 569 years ago, by dreaming of the Roman Empire or Byzantium, is a delusion. Those who yearn for a return to an era 1000 years ago make it clear who is expansionist and who is an obstacle to peace.”

2⃣ Hagia Sophia, which has been used as a mosque for centuries, has been under the protection of the Turkish nation since 1453.

The Greek government, which does not even give a burial place to Muslims when they die, is trying to deceive their own people with crude dreams and try to cover up their dead-end realities. The sun is not covered with mud.

We commemorate Fatih Sultan Mehmet Khan and his heroic army, who conquered Istanbul 569 years ago, with mercy, gratitude, and gratitude.”
