Turkish aggression: Kilicdaroglu backs Erdogan if he “does something about Greek-occupied islands”

Opposition leader calls on Turkish President to escalate tensions with Greece, leaving the military option open

Newsroom June 2 02:15

The anti-Greek rhetoric in Turkey is going from bad to worse, with Athens now becoming officially Ankara’s number one enemy, according to Turkish officials.

The explosive mix includes everything, since both the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the opposition of the Turkey have their eyes fixed on the Greek islands of the eastern Aegean Sea and with pro-war statements warn that at some point the time will come for a violent change of borders.

After the crescendo of provocative statements of the previous days by Erdogan and the maps presented by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, saying that Ankara would challenge the Greek sovereignty over the islands, the leader of the opposition, the Kemalists, Kemal Kilicdaroglu followed.

Specifically, yesterday, in the provocative speech of the Turkish President in the Parliamentary Group of his party, where he warned Greece to “come to its senses and correct its mistakes”, Tayyip Erdogan also referred to Kilicdaroglu, asking him questions. As Manolis Kostidis reported to SKAI, the Turkish President, among other things, asked the leader of the Kemalists “in Turkey’s efforts to create permanent economic zones on the border line in the Mediterranean and the Aegean, are you with Turkey or not?”.

Later that evening, Republican People’s Party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu responded to the Turkish President with statements that foretold an ominous future for Greek-Turkish relations even in the post-Erdogan era. Specifically, Kilicdaroglu said: “It is imperative to increase pressure on the Mediterranean and the Aegean. These jobs are not done by sending the ship (note: drilling ship to the Aegean) and then withdrawing it to say, ‘I wish Biden would call me’. If you have soul, take a step for the occupied islands and for the militarized islands. We will support you!”
