Famous Greek polls analyst Elias Nikolakopoulos dies while swimming

He was 75

Elias Nikolakopoulos, one of Greece’s most authoritative and well-known polls analysts died at the age of 75, while swimming at Achladi beach in Syros, around one in the afternoon.

according to reports, as he was swimming in a supine position, he suddenly stopped moving and a small boat rushed for first aid – a move that proved futile, as the political analyst had already passed away.

Who was Elias Nikolakopoulos?

He was born in Athens and studied mathematics at the University of Athens and Lausanne.

He completed postgraduate studies in the theory of probability at the University of Paris and in 1984 he was awarded a doctorate by the law department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

In 1986 he was elected a lecturer at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens and in 2003 a full professor.

For a number of years, he collaborated with the television station Mega for the presentation of the electoral processes. He was a regular contributor to newspapers (“Ta Nea” etc.) and maintained a historical program “Sto Kokkino”.

Until today he was president of the Archives of Contemporary Social History (ASKI).
