Large explosion rocks Athens suburb (video-photos)

There were two injuries

Newsroom February 17 12:31

A large explosion was recorded in a gas bottle store in Aegaleo on Friday morning (17/2), resulting in two injuries.

The explosion took place on Miaouli and Dimarchiou Street in the area and two people were injured. One of them is the owner of the gas cylinder business and is in a more serious condition.

The second injured person is a street vendor who was setting up his stall outside the store and was also taken to the hospital with lacerations.

The Police and Fire Department were immediately on the scene.

An eyewitness from the area spoke to protothema.gr describing how deafening the noise that was heard during the explosion was.

“We thought the building collapsed, we didn’t realise it was an explosion at first. We still can’t hear. The sound was so loud,” said a man who lives in the area.

“We are lucky to be alive” initially said the owner of a stall, adding that “the man who was injured was inside the store when the explosion happened, his colleague was setting up his stall outside”.
