Greek men’s water polo reaches World Championship final after beating Serbia in semi-final

Greece will face either Hungary or Spain

Newsroom July 27 01:01

The Greek men’s national water polo team with a perfect performance “annihilated” Serbia 13-7 in the semi-finals and for the first time will play for the gold medal in a world championship, while at the same time, it secured a spot in the Olympics.

On Saturday (29/7, 12:00) the national team will attempt to reach the summit of its history as it will face Hungary or Spain in the final of the World Championship in Fukuoka.

Greece’s victory against the Serbs is historic because it broke the curse of a 5-losing streak in five semi-finals at world championships, while it beat the Serbs in a major event for the first time, and also got revenge for losing the final of the Tokyo Olympics two years ago.
