Bvlgari in Paramythia: The family’s visit to where it all began (photos)

Nicola Bvlgari and the younger members of the family visited the former Primary School and the family's first commercial store, which opened in 1870

Newsroom August 16 12:02

The Bvlgari family visited Paramythia, in Epirus, Greece, where the world’s most famous jewelry house took its first steps in 1870.

The emotion was great when Nicola Bvlgari as well as the younger members of the family saw the place of their ancestors. The family visited the under-renovation school building donated by the Bvlgari family as well as the first workshop and goldsmith shop of Sotiris Voulgaris (as was the spelling before changing it later on).

During their visit, they were informed by the Mayor of Souli, Yiannis Karagiannis, the president of the Regional Council, Stavroula Braimi, and the Deputy Mayor of Technical Services, Fanis Bellogia, about the latter’s conversion work into an Art, Education and Culture Center, where a large part of it will be dedicated to the great benefactors of city.

They also visited the church of Panagia and the monument of the 49 Elders that were executed by the Cham Albanians of the area who were collaborating with the Nazi occupation forces.

According to information from paramythia-online.gr, Nicola Bvlgari and his family declared that they were also excited by the work at the former Primary School and emphasized that they are willing to contribute to the completion of the project and the relevant consultations with the technical services of the Municipality of Souli will follow.

Nicola and all the family members were happily photographed with all the official and non-official attendees. The visit of the Bvlgari family ended with a meal at a tavern on the banks of the legendary Acheron river, where a promise was made of their next visit in a very short time.
