Archbishop Ieronymos: Calls for a roll call vote on the bill on same-sex couples

"In this way, we safeguard democracy and the interests of the Greek people," Archbishop said on a radio station.

Newsroom February 14 04:16

Archbishop Ieronymos intervened on the bill on same-sex couples, as it is being debated in the plenary session of the Greek Parliament, calling for a roll call vote.

“Our country is a democratic country in the world and in the world forums. In fact, the Greek people are democratic and have taught democracy since ancient times.

It would be good, therefore, in the full free expression of the democracy that the Greek parliament is inspired by, that this vote be by roll call”, he stressed.

He continued: “In this way, both democracy and the interests of the Greek people are safeguarded in the best way,” Archbishop Ieronymos said, speaking on Radio Station 89.5 on Wednesday morning.

Today, at the start of the debate, a request for a roll call vote was officially submitted by 21 MPs.

At the same time, three objections to the unconstitutionality of the bill were submitted, by Hellenic Solution, Spartans and Niki.

In the roll-call vote to be held tomorrow (Thursday), the bill must secure a majority of those present but this must not be less than 75 votes.
