Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Greece always stands on the side of International Law

The Greek Prime Minister referred to the opportunities for cooperation between Greece and Armenia

Newsroom February 27 01:12

Greece always stands on the side of International Law. This message was conveyed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his statements after the meeting he had with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, at the Maximos Mansion on Tuesday afternoon.

The Greek Prime Minister referred to the opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, adding that “all prerequisites exist for reaching a bilateral agreement on the employment of Armenians in Greece”.

On his part, the Armenian Prime Minister thanked Greece for its assistance and support in the efforts made by his country for democratic reforms, expressing the wish that trade relations would soon reflect the excellent level of political relations between the two countries.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that, “Greece has always stood on the side of international law. We remain steadfast against any use of violence and are fully committed to respecting the territorial sovereignty of each state. The decisions you are called upon to make now will largely shape Armenia’s path for the years to come”.

As he emphasized, “the 100,000 refugees from Karabakh must be relieved, and Greece will stand by every effort for a diplomatic solution with Azerbaijan. Only a sustainable agreement can open up the future for the Caucasus”.

“Only the progress of peoples repels the plans of autocratic leaders”, added Mr. Mitsotakis.

At the same time, the Prime Minister indicated that “Greece is ready to contribute with expertise and technology to the reconstruction of this new liberal democracy and to assist in the protection of Armenia’s cultural heritage”.

“In conclusion, there are all the prerequisites for reaching a bilateral agreement on the employment of Armenians in Greece. The country has a vibrant available workforce in several employment sectors,” concluded Kyriakos Mitsotakis, emphasizing that “Armenians in Greece are perhaps the most fertile link of cooperation and solidarity connecting Greece and Armenia.”
