Serious clashes with 16 injured in Syntagma – Protesters remain around the Parliament (video-photos) (Upd.)

There is no concern about the health of the injured

The student demonstration, which began earlier in the afternoon from the Propylaea ahead of the vote on the bill for non-state universities, was marked by serious clashes in the area of Syntagma.

Groups of allegedly student groups remained in front of the Parliament ahead of the vote on the bill for private universities, later today.

Specifically, according to the Police, shortly before 4 pm, a group of individuals attacked police forces with Molotov cocktails bombs in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, with police responding by using chemicals to disperse them.

During the incidents, 16 people were injured (in the head and hands), with an ambulance arriving on Stadiou Street to pick up eight of them and transport them to “G. Gennimatas” Hospital.

The one injured person went to the hospital alone for first aid.

According to reports, the injured (all men aged 19 to 57) underwent radiological examination and were examined by neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists, with no life-threatening injuries detected.

Some of the injured are police officers.

Three arrests were made by the police.

Around 5 pm, with tensions having subsided, Stadiou Street was reopened to traffic, while protesters were gathered on Amalias Avenue.
