Angelina Jolie – Brad Pitt: Legal victory for the actress over the fairytale winery Miraval in France

The actor accuses his ex-wife of selling her share to a Russian oligarch without his consent

Newsroom March 21 07:20

A new episode unfolded in the protracted legal battle involving one of Hollywood’s most famous couples, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

Specifically, this time, the dispute concerns Chateau Miraval, the vineyard located in Provence, Southern France, which was purchased for $28 million in 2008. According to the Daily Mail, Jolie’s lawyer stated that the Oscar-winning actress achieved a series of legal victories for the French estate and winery.

The legal dispute revolves around the sale of Jolie’s ownership stake to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler in 2021. The judge ruled in favor of the 48-year-old Oscar-winning actress and dismissed five of the seven claims Pitt made against her in the lawsuit he filed, during a hearing in Los Angeles last week.

“Pitt’s lawsuit never concerned a business dispute; instead, it was his attempt to cover up serious domestic violence, and we are pleased that the judge rejected much of his claim,” emphasized Jolie’s defense attorney. Jolie “bears no ill will toward Pitt,” her lawyer added, stating that the actress “hopes that now he will dismiss his reckless lawsuit and stop his relentless attacks.”

It is worth noting that Hollywood stars have been involved in a series of legal disputes over the past six years, including the custody of their six children. Jolie’s legal victory comes after her 60-year-old former spouse had managed to achieve three legal victories against the actress and Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler.

In the Miraval dispute, Brad Pitt sued Angelina Jolie for breach of contract, as she sold her share in the estate to the Russian oligarch without the actor’s consent or knowledge.

The couple purchased Château Miraval together in 2008, with Pitt taking on a leading role in a vineyard business that produces award-winning sparkling rosé wine. The estate also features a recording studio that has hosted significant bands such as AC/DC, The Cure, and Travis Scott.

The couple tied the knot there in a ceremony in 2014, attended by their six children.

Jolie has previously claimed that she filed for divorce after Pitt allegedly attempted to choke one of their children during a flight while intoxicated in September 2016, also alleging that he poured alcohol on both her and their children.

Despite investigations by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, no charges were ever filed against Pitt.

Last month, a court in Luxembourg temporarily stripped Shelfer of 10% of the Miraval shares, effectively making Pitt the primary shareholder.

Judge Lea Martin in Los Angeles this week then gave Pitt the green light to sue Jolie for breach of contract. Jolie argued that the lawsuit should be dismissed as “frivolous, vexatious, and part of a problematic pattern” by Pitt.
