Greece: Rising temperatures & African dust engulf the country

The concentrations of African dust will remain high, mainly in the western and southern parts of the country.

Newsroom May 18 12:11

The weather will be stifling today and tomorrow as African dust, combined with high temperatures, is expected to make life difficult for citizens in certain areas of Greece, according to meteorologists.

The weather will be different and will divide the country in two until Monday, as Northern Greece will experience almost no heat, with occasional phenomena and increased cloudiness.

In the western and southern parts (mainly Peloponnese and Crete), the heat will be noticeable, with temperatures locally reaching 36 degrees Celsius, while humidity will also be high.

Dust concentrations in the atmosphere will also be increased over the weekend in the western and southern parts of the country, such as Central Greece, the Ionian Islands, the Peloponnese, the Cyclades, and Crete, with conditions improving from Monday.

It is noted that meteorologists predict a “cocktail” of high temperatures and African dust due to a subtropical airstream approaching Greece.

Intense phenomena will mainly occur between Crete and the Peloponnese, gradually shifting eastward.

African dust is expected across the country during midday, primarily in the western and southern regions, while in the evening, the dust will move towards the central Aegean.
