New message from Mitsotakis to Skopje: “If you persist in provocations, the European road closes”

"I am disappointed that our northern neighbors chose, at this juncture, to turn back time and to question the name of their country"

Newsroom May 21 06:55

A new message to the state and political leadership of North Macedonia to stop the verbal provocations and the practical questioning of the Prespa Agreement was sent today from Florina by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Prime Minister explicitly stated that if the new leadership of Skopje persists in provocative rhetoric, then their European path will remain closed.

“I am disappointed that our northern neighbors chose, at this juncture, to turn back time and to question the name of their country. When the Prespa Agreement was voted on, New Democracy was against it but stated that we cannot tear up an international agreement with a law and an article,” said Mr. Mitsotakis speaking at a citizens’ gathering, and added:

“I want to send a message a few kilometers away from our borders, to Skopje: if they persist in questioning the core of the agreement on the country’s name, they should know that their European path will remain closed. And I’m not saying this with joy.”
