Raïssi: Viral conspiracy theory in Israel about his death – Pilot named Eli Kopter suspected as Mossad agent

The improbable theory about Ebrahim Raisi's death went viral on the internet, with some people being fooled into believing it was true

Newsroom May 21 05:02

An extraordinary theory from Israel is fueling various conspiracy scenarios about the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi after the helicopter crash in which he and high-ranking officials were involved. As reported by the Jerusalem Post, many users showed keen interest in a post—clearly humorous and mocking in nature—by Israeli followers on social media regarding the loss of the Iranian president. Those behind it were enemies of the late leader.

As soon as this comment was posted on social media, it immediately became a hit, the Israeli newspaper notes, referring to the followers who made jokes about the name of the pilot and supposed agent.

The theory quickly wnet viral among Israelis who were celebrating the death of Ebrahim Raisi, the article adds. Many users, unaware that it was a joke, took it seriously and shared it as evidence of the success of Israeli intelligence services. For instance, a presenter from the French-speaking Israeli news channel i24news mentioned the fantasy theory in a post on the channel’s Telegram account.

Meanwhile, according to sources from the Arabic-speaking television station Iran International, the conspiracy theory surrounding the involvement of Mossad in the crash of the helicopter carrying the Iranian president has even reached the official Telegram channel of Hamas, which reported it as a real event.

The helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday in a mountainous area of Iran near the border with Azerbaijan amid dense fog. The causes of the crash continue to remain unknown; however, there are two prevailing conspiracy theories about the president’s death: either that he was taken out by moderate Iranians or by agents of the Israeli Mossad.
