Skopje: After the president, the prime minister also insists on the name “Macedonia”

At an official meeting, he spoke of excellent relations between "Macedonia" and Austria

Newsroom May 22 06:16

After the newly elected president of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski also insists on using the name “Macedonia”, which is a blatant violation of the Prespa Agreement. The official website of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia was updated yesterday. However, as media sources pointed the homepage of the official website, next to the coat of arms, it does not write the name North Macedonia.

The constitutional name of the country, Republic of North Macedonia, appears in the description of the country under the category “MK”, where geographical, demographic and other information is listed. There is no mention of the country of origin. Furthermore, information about meetings with ambassadors of foreign states only expresses President Silianovska-Davkova had meetings.

It should be noted that the new president of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova called the country Macedonia when she was sworn in on May 12. Although, in the text of the oath dictated by the speaker of parliament Jovan Mitreski, Mrs. Gordana Silianovska-Davkova was asked to repeat it and refer to the country as North Macedonia. In fact, in her personal account on X, the newly elected president pertains to herself as the President of Macedonia, without the geographical designation provided for in the Prespa Agreement.

Notably, 71-year-old Gordana Silianovska-Davkova was elected president of North Macedonia on May 8 as the candidate of the right-wing VMRO-DPMNE party with a large lead over the country’s former social democratic president, Stevo Pendarovski.
