PM Mitsotakis press conference from Chania (video) (Update)

"Why doesn't Kasselakis submit his source of funds declaration?"

Newsroom June 2 11:54

The prime minister and president of the ND, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is gave a cross-channel press conference from Chania against the background of the upcoming European elections. In this context, and responding, among other things, to the criticism he receives from Stefanos Kasselakis, Mr. Mitsotakis wondered why doesn’t Kasselakis submit his source of funds declaration, as he had said he would do, before the European elections.

The prime minister emphasized that Greece must have a strong voice in Europe and did not deny the rise of the extreme right in Europe and our country. But he emphasized that Greece is now effectively dealing with the immigration-refugee problem, which strengthens the arguments of far-right parties across Europe.

He also excluded the dialogue with parties in Greece, which invoke “pseudo-patriotism” and instrumentalize the homeland and religion. “Parties to the right of the ND also existed in the national elections of 2023. They will have a noticeable presence, how noticeable the Greek citizens will show it” emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis, among others.

Responding to a question by Grigoris Tziovaras on the “Proto Thema” regarding the reforms and the assessment of the first 11 months of the new government term after the 2023 elections, Mr. Mitsotakis spoke of absolute consistency and adherence to the ND’s pre-election commitments, talking about reforms in Justice and Health mainly, which were implemented within a short period of time. He specifically referred to the new judicial map, the increases, the interventions in tax policy, the absorption of resources from the Recovery Fund.

“We will be judged in the elections of 2027. One of our central campaign commitments was to raise wages. We are on the way to reach 950 euros in the minimum wage and the average wage I believe will exceed 1,500 euros. All of these are examples of a government that consistently implements its policy. When I judge that changes are needed, I proceed with them. Look at the Ministry of Citizen Protection, we have more policing in the neighborhoods and we have successfully dealt with the issues of fan violence,” he underlined.

Asked about the provocations from Skopje, Mr. Mitsotakis pointed out: “I expect the designated Prime Minister to publicly and explicitly acknowledge that he respects the Prespa Agreement.” He also mentioned that he will raise the issue at the NATO Summit on July 9-11 and commented that he expects common sense to prevail.
