Rhodes: The beach bar with sunbeds in the sea was sealed

Operation by the Ministry of Finance, Police, and AADE early Friday morning - What does the procedure provide

Newsroom June 7 12:35

At 7 this morning, a joint operation involving the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the Hellenic Police, and the AADE was conducted at Agia Marina Beach, Rhodes. The Real Estate Service of Dodecanese A’ sealed off areas where illegal constructions, including umbrella seats, were discovered both on the beach and in the sea.

Less than 48 hours earlier, an on-site inspection revealed the illegal occupation of the beach and the installation of 19 metal structures in the sea. Following legal procedures, including the preparation of an autopsy report, an immediate removal order was issued, along with the sealing and shutdown of the illegally occupied area’s operations.

The process includes issuing fines on the same day, calculated at four times the yearly fee the entrepreneur would have paid under the recent strict law. Within 48 hours, all illegal constructions, including movable parts of metal structures, must be removed by the entrepreneur, or the responsibility falls on the Municipality. Additionally, a demolition protocol for the metal elements will be issued shortly.

Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring legality across the country. He emphasized that such actions would continue unabated.
