Skopje: The US Ambassador welcomes Mitskoski’s statement that he will use the constitutional name during his swearing-in ceremony

Washington was disappointed when Siljanovska did not use it, US Ambassador noted

Newsroom June 21 08:48

The US Ambassador to North Macedonia, Angela Aggeler, welcomed the statement by the designated Prime Minister and leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski, that he will use the constitutional name of the state during his swearing-in ceremony in Parliament and during his appearances abroad.

In an interview with North Macedonia’s state television, Angela Aggeler expressed hope that all ministers in the new government will follow Hristijan Mickoski’s example.

“Indeed, it was a disappointment for the leadership in Washington when President (Gordana Siljanovska) decided not to use the country’s constitutional name during her swearing-in, and frankly, what the future Prime Minister and his ministers will do is something we welcome,” noted the US Ambassador to North Macedonia.

Additionally, she mentioned that the new ruling party (VMRO-DPMNE) and the government will be judged solely by their actions, in contrast to the pre-election promises, which can cover the entire political spectrum during the campaign period.

It is noted that Hristijan Mickoski stated a few days ago that during the swearing-in of his government, he will use the constitutional name of the country (i.e., Republic of North Macedonia). However, he did not clarify how he will refer to the country when reading the government’s program statements.

Hristijan Mickoski added that he will use the constitutional name of his country in his contacts abroad.

However, within the country, both in his public appearances and statements, he will use the name “Macedonia,” because, as he said, for him, the name of the country and his homeland is “Macedonia.”

At noon on Saturday (June 22), the two-day discussion in the Parliament of North Macedonia on the program statements of the new government, led by the right-wing VMRO-DPMNE, with Hristijan Mickoski as Prime Minister, will begin. This parliamentary session will conclude by midnight on Sunday (June 23) at the latest with a roll-call vote of confidence in the government.

The new government of the country, led by VMRO-DPMNE, will also include the opposition Albanian coalition “It’s Worth It” and the newly formed Slavic party “I Know,” led by the mayor of Kumanovo, Maksim Dimitrievski.
