The Peristera shipwreck on Alonissos is ranked among the 9 most important underwater museums in the world, in a survey presented by the international news website News9live.com.

According to the website visited by millions of travelers from America and Asia, the underwater museum of Alonissos is one of the largest and most important ancient shipwrecks of the Classical period.

The list includes underwater museums from Mexico, Spain, Cyprus, Caribbean, Jordan, Italy, Australia and Israel. It is noted that the Peristera wreck has been considered the most remarkable ancient visitable shipwreck in the world. Measuring approximately 25 x 10 metres (25 x 10 metres), the ship was loaded with 4,000 amphorae and sank in the period 425-400 BC.

“Alonissos is a destination with unique points of interest that attracts travelers from Greece and many foreign countries. The homely hospitality, the range of alternative activities, the impressive diving spots, the largest natural marine park in the Mediterranean, the heavenly beaches, the beautiful settlements, the greenery of nature and the options for quality accommodation,good food, sea excursions, activities, relaxation and mild entertainment are “ingredients” for real escapes from everyday life,” said the president of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Alonissos and tour operator Diogenes Theodorou.
