Pirates of the Caribbean actor Tamayo Perry dies in shark attack

Perry had a notable acting career, appearing in prominent films like "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle," "Blue Crush"

Newsroom June 25 08:15

Tamayo Perry, a beloved figure known for his roles in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and as a surfing legend, tragically passed away at the age of 49 after a shark attack in Oahu, Hawaii. Perry, who appeared in Disney’s fourth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, was attacked while taking a break from his lifeguard duties near Goat Island on Sunday, as reported by Stab magazine. Local surfers discovered him off Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore, grievously injured, with an arm and leg missing.

Despite swift efforts by emergency responders to bring him ashore and perform resuscitation, Perry succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Following the incident, ocean safety personnel promptly erected shark warning signs in the vicinity to alert beachgoers, according to the New York Post.

Acting Honolulu ocean safety chief Kurt Lager described Perry as a globally recognized professional surfer with a charismatic personality that endeared him to many. Lager emphasized Perry’s role as a beloved lifeguard within the community, noting the profound impact he had on those around him.

Perry began his lifeguarding career in 2016 and remained dedicated to ensuring safety along Oahu’s North Shore until his untimely death.

In addition to his contributions to ocean safety, Perry had a notable acting career, appearing in prominent films like “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” “Blue Crush,” and various television series. Born in Hawaii in 1975, Perry’s passion for surfing blossomed at an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his talent and dedication in the local surfing scene.

Tamayo Perry leaves behind a legacy marked by his achievements in both entertainment and water sports, remembered fondly by friends, colleagues, and admirers worldwide. His untimely death is mourned as a profound loss to the community he served and loved.
