A Hellenic Coast Guard officer was injured during a chase of a speedboat carrying dozens of illegal immigrants in Rhodes.

The operator of the speedboat, which was spotted sailing, early today, at high speed and without navigation lights towards the eastern coast of Rhodes, in an attempt to evade arrest, made dangerous maneuvers, resulting in a collision with the port side of the Coast Guard vessel.

The Coast Guard officer was slightly injured in the shoulder and was taken to the Rhodes General Hospital for first aid while the boat with the illegal immigrants managed to escape to the opposite Turkish coast.
