Joe Biden: Despite rumors, his staff insist he will remain the Democratic presidential candidate

There is "no plan for an alternative candidate" - Major Democratic donors are pressuring Biden to withdraw

Newsroom July 19 07:26

The suspense continues regarding Joe Biden‘s candidacy in the upcoming US presidential election in November 2024.

Despite rumors suggesting Biden might withdraw due to poor poll performance, which notably declined following his disappointing debate performance against Donald Trump, his campaign insists he will remain the Democratic candidate in November.

A new memo states that voters continue to support him despite concerns about his age and that the party has “no plan for an alternative candidate.”

Major Democratic Donors Pressuring Biden to Withdraw

Major Democratic donors are turning their backs on President Biden, urging him to exit the race for reelection.

In a Zoom meeting held earlier this month after the debate, among the 75 wealthiest political donors to the Democrats, only one expressed belief that Biden should remain in the race. The rest, as reported by CNBC, made it clear they thought Biden should withdraw if the party wanted to defeat Trump in November.

Following this meeting, major donors who fund either Biden’s campaign, his allied political action committees, or the party as a whole, have launched a campaign to pressure senior Democrats in both the House and Senate to persuade Biden to withdraw.

Their goal is to convince lawmakers to publicly call for Biden to end his reelection campaign.

Many of these donors expressed their positions in stark terms. As CNBC reports, they indicated that if Biden refuses to withdraw, they will not contribute money to support his reelection until polls show he is a clear favorite to defeat Trump.

However, according to the same report, the collapse in Biden’s fundraising does not necessarily spell disaster for the party.

It appears that events featuring Vice President Kamala Harris, a potential successor to Biden if he steps down, are gaining significant momentum.

The report mentions a ticketing diagram for a fundraising event with Kamala Harris in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on July 27, which shows it is nearly sold out. Tickets range from $100 to $12,000, according to the invitation.
