Kamala Harris Weaves Joe Biden into Her First Speech – No Mention of Presidential Race

"His achievements in modern history are unparalleled" - U.S. Vice President spoke about her personal connection with Biden, who was absent due to recovery from COVID-19

Newsroom July 22 08:02

In her first speech following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race, Kamala Harris expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for Biden, who has received considerable support from the Democratic Party in his bid to challenge Donald Trump.

Harris highlighted Biden’s exceptional legacy, stating, “The impact that Biden leaves on modern history is of unique value.” Joe Biden was unable to attend the event due to illness from COVID-19.

Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the audience at an NCAA event at the White House on July 22, 2024.

“Biden’s achievements over the past three years are monumental in the context of modern history,” she remarked. “In just one term, he has already surpassed many presidents who have served two terms.”

Reflecting on her personal connection with Biden, Harris shared, “I first met President Biden through his son, Bo, with whom I worked as attorney’s-general in our respective states.”

She continued, “Bo often spoke to me about his father, sharing stories about his morals and values. The qualities Bo admired in his father—his honesty, integrity, commitment to faith and family, his big heart and love, and his profound dedication to our country—are what I see in our President. I witness every day how Biden fights for the American people, and I am deeply, deeply grateful for his contributions to our nation.”

“Biden wanted to be here today, but he is currently recovering from COVID-19,” Harris added.

Harris did not address the upcoming November presidential election in her speech.
