Demi Georgiou: What happened to the 39-year-old woman – The chronicle of the tragedy

The exact causes of the death of the former Masterchef player remain unknown

Newsroom July 23 09:21

Shock has been caused by the death yesterday of 39-year-old former Masterchef player, Demis Georgiou. The sudden loss has raised a host of questions, with exact medical information remaining strictly within the hospital where the 39-year-old was treated until she was discharged. But it appears to be a complex incident in which more than one reason co-exists. The cause of death has reportedly been listed as septic shock, and the unfortunate girl reportedly had a bacterial infection in a weak immune system due to a possible underlying disease.

As of last night, there was no official word on the medical background that led to Demi Georgiou’s death. What has been known, however, converges that the trigger was an infection – which it is not known what caused it – and her condition was severely worsened due to a weakened immune system as she was experiencing health problems.

What is certain is that the ambulance rescuers who intubated her last Saturday in Paros, saw a young woman in a comat. In fact, as the information suggests, when she came to the island’s Health Center seeking medical assistance, she was not in a good level of consciousness.

According to what has been learned from medical circles, on Saturday, July 20, she was taken to the Health Center of Paros, where doctors provided her with first aid, trying to stabilize her. But they judged that she needed to be airlifted to Athens, which she was. A helicopter transported her to the Athens area and specifically to the General Hospital of Nice. There she was hospitalized intubated until yesterday morning when she unfortunately died.

The – very succinct and unofficial – information from hospital sources repeated the cause as septic shock following a bacterial infection but in the territory of a compromised immune system. Bacterial infection can have a wide range of causes. These infections occur when the body is attacked by single-celled organisms that multiply or release toxins into the body. These common bacterial diseases include urinary tract infections, food poisoning, sexually transmitted diseases and certain skin, sinus and ear infections.

In addition, septic shock is a very serious complication due to the generalized inflammatory response of the body to an infection by a bacterium, virus, fungus or parasite. Such a severe complication can be caused by even a common microbe if a patient is left without medical attention. Therefore, it is reasonable to ask the question whether the 39-year-old woman felt unwell for days and did not go to a doctor.
