Middle East: Hezbollah attacks northern Israel with drones, at least five injured

Retaliation by the Lebanese organization for the assassination of their special unit Radwan's commander by the IDF - "Punishment is coming," say Lebanese media, also warning of Hezbollah strikes on civilians

Newsroom August 6 03:16

Hezbollah Drone Attacks The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah announced that it launched a series of drone attacks on military targets today in Galilee, northern Israel.

A source from the organization stated that the drones were launched towards the Golani Brigade headquarters in response to last night’s assassination of a commander of Hezbollah’s special Radwan unit. At least five people were injured, one of them critically.

IDF’s Assassination of Ali Jawad Yesterday, the IDF announced that they had killed Ali Jawad, the commander of Radwan, in an airstrike in a village in southern Lebanon. According to the Israeli army, the attack on Jawad represents “significant damage to Hezbollah’s ability to promote and conduct terrorist operations from southern Lebanon against Israeli rear positions on the northern border.”

Hezbollah’s Pledge for Revenge In addition to Ali Jawad, Hezbollah has vowed to avenge the death of its commander, Fouad Shukr, in Beirut, raising concerns that a major escalation could lead to a full-scale conflict in the region.

Media Warning: “Punishment is Coming” Meanwhile, the editor of the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, published an article this morning titled “Punishment is Coming,” discussing the possibility of regional escalation and Hezbollah’s expected reactions to Israel’s actions.

In the article, Ibrahim al-Amine wrote that Hezbollah’s target “could be Tel Aviv itself” and that the organization will seek to harm “the entity that made the decision to kill Fouad Shukr and those who participated in the attack.” According to him, civilians in the area may be affected.

Hezbollah’s Expected Retaliation The writer also claimed that in the Israeli attack on Yemen, “the enemy deliberately hit a civilian facility in the port of Hodeidah, knowing in advance that civilians would be killed or injured, and proudly called it a high-quality military operation.” He added that it is safe to bet that Hezbollah’s response “will damage key facilities of the enemy, whether civilian or military. It does not matter if the response results in the death of soldiers or settlers.”
