Weather: Instability during the warm hours of the day on the mainland & winds up to 7 Beaufort

Where rains are expected - High fire risk in 15 areas

This week will be without any particular high temperatures, but during the hottest hours of the day there will be rain in the mainland until Friday, while winds will reach up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean, according to a post by EMF director Thodoris Kolydas,

Generally clear weather this week , but there will be no shortage of instability during the warmer hours of the day on the mainland until Friday.

Temperatures on the mainland will be around 35 to 37°C, in the Ionian Sea, the East Aegean islands, the Dodecanese and Crete 33 to 35 degrees and in the rest of the islands 30 to 32°C, about 4 degrees above normal.
Winds will remain north at 5 to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea and occasionally in the east and south at 6-7 Beaufort during the day.

High fire danger in 15 areas

High fire risk (risk category 3) is forecast for today (06/08) in several regions of the country, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).

Specifically, a very high fire risk is predicted for the following areas:

Attica, Areas of Central Greece, Areas of Western Greece, Thesprotia, Preveza, Preveza, Argolida, Corinthia, Messinia, Kilkis, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Lasithi, Dodecanese, North Aegean Islands, Ionian Islands.

The weather today

Sunshine is forecast with a few clouds, partly increasing in the morning hours in Eastern Central Greece, Evia, Sporades and in the warm hours in the central and northern mainland, with local rainfall in the mountains of Central Central Central Greece, Peloponnese, Epirus and Thrace.

The temperature will range from 21 to 35 degrees in Northern Greece (in Western Macedonia from 16 to 32 degrees), 23 to 36 degrees in Central and Southern Greece (in Thessaly up to 37 degrees), 21 to 35 degrees in Western Greece (in the Southeastern Peloponnese up to 37 degrees), 24 to 35 degrees in the Cyclades and from 20 to 34 degrees in Crete, 25 to 36 degrees in the East Aegean islands and from 25 to 33 degrees in the Dodecanese.

Winds will blow in the North Aegean from variable directions, light and in the rest of the Aegean from northwest directions, light to almost moderate 3-4 Beaufort and in the Southeastern Aegean moderate 5 Beaufort, while in the Ionian Sea from northwest directions, light and in the afternoon and evening hours almost moderate 4 Beaufort.

WEDNESDAY 07-08-2024
Generally clear weather with occasional clouds in the continental highlands in the midday and afternoon hours when local rainfall is possible.
Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 Beaufort, in the Aegean Sea locally 6 and occasionally up to 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius on the mainland, 31 to 34 degrees Celsius on the islands and locally 36 degrees Celsius in the eastern Aegean and southern Crete.

Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 Beaufort, and in the Aegean Sea 6 to 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius on the mainland, 30 to 34 degrees Celsius on the islands and 35 to 36 degrees Celsius locally in the eastern Aegean and southern Crete.

FRIDAY 09-08-2024
Generally clear weather with occasional clouds in the continental highlands in the midday and afternoon hours when there will be local rain and in the northwest possibly isolated thunderstorms.
Winds will blow from the north 3 to 5 and in the Aegean Sea 6 to 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly.

SATURDAY 10-08-2024
Generally clear weather, with occasional clouds on the mainland, mainly in the mountains, in the midday and afternoon hours.
Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort, in the Aegean Sea 6 and occasionally up to 7 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly.
