Fire in Attica: France, Italy, Türkiye, Serbia, Romania, and the Czech Republic send reinforcements to Greece

The number of countries responding to Greece's request for assistance through the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) is expanding. Following France, Italy, and the Czech Republic, firefighting forces are now being sent by Serbia, Romania, and Türkiye

It is noted that the activation of the UCPM, with a request for aerial and ground assistance, was made by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection on Sunday afternoon.

The activation of the European Mechanism was immediate, with the following countries initially responding to the Greek request:

  • France: Sent a Super Puma helicopter with a bucket, which arrived last night.
  • Italy: Sent two Canadair firefighting aircraft, expected to arrive this morning.
  • Czech Republic: Sent 75 firefighters and 25 vehicles, including 9 water trucks, expected to arrive today.

France, in addition to the Super Puma helicopter, is also sending significant additional support.

Aerial Forces

  • Türkiye: Two Tractors firefighting aircraft.
  • Serbia: One Kamov firefighting helicopter.

Ground Forces

  • France: 200 personnel with 28 water trucks.
  • Romania: 44 personnel with 4 water trucks.
  • Serbia: 35 personnel with 10 vehicles.
