Swedish football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, renowned for his achievements, has passed away at the age of 76 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

His family announced his death, stating, “Sven-Goran Eriksson has passed away. After a long illness, SGE died during the morning at his home, surrounded by his family.”

Eriksson became the first foreign coach of the England national football team in 2001, leading what was known as the “golden generation” of players including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, and Frank Lampard.

Due to his health issues, Eriksson resigned as sporting director of the Swedish club Karlstad in February 2023. Following his cancer diagnosis, he fulfilled a lifelong wish by leading the Liverpool Legends in a charity match against Ajax at Anfield in March.
