How to Enjoy EKO Acropolis Rally 2024

As with every year, safety is a top priority. The goal is to have a seamless race without cancellations or interruptions of any special stages, and of course, without endangering anyone's safety

Newsroom September 4 10:19

Guidelines for a Safe Experience

To achieve this, everyone heading to the mountains should take the following points seriously:

1. Access to Special Stages

The special stages are closed approximately three hours before the first race car passes through. Ensure you arrive on time and park in a way that does not block potential access for emergency vehicles. Park on one side of the road, taking up only the necessary space, so that as many cars as possible can fit. Additionally, make sure you park in the direction you’ll be leaving to avoid the need for a U-turn.

You can find all access routes to the special stages on acropolisrally.gr. Note, however, that the organizers may close access roads if deemed necessary. Good preparation will save you a lot of trouble. Plan your outing carefully, pick your viewing spot in advance, and arrive there on time! Also, keep in mind that for repeated special stages, the organizers will evaluate the conditions and may allow limited-time access for spectator movement in the direction of the stage, only if it’s deemed safe.

2. No Tape, No Spectators

According to the new FIA safety regulations, areas without protective tape or barriers are considered off-limits. Watch the race from designated viewing spots, which are clearly marked, or from elevated areas.

If spectators are spotted in unsafe areas, the special stage could be delayed or canceled. The FIA monitors this in near real-time. The race control center receives high-definition images from helicopters, safety cars, and the racing vehicles themselves. If it’s determined that spectators are in dangerous locations, the race may be stopped within that stage.

3. Listen to the Marshals

Follow the instructions of the marshals. They are positioned along the special stages to ensure your safety. The organizers have arranged for you to be as close to the action as possible (but not dangerously close).

4. Wait for the Green Light

The top category rally cars of the FIA World Rally Championship have hybrid power units. In case of an accident, due to the high voltage that may be present, do not touch a stopped car unless the distinctive light on the windshield and both side pillars are green.

A steady green light indicates it is safe to approach the car and offer assistance. On the other hand, if the light is red and accompanied by an alarm sound, the car is unsafe to touch.

5. Respect the Environment

We live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and the special stages of the EKO Acropolis Rally cross some of the purest and most stunning landscapes in our country. Enjoy the spectacle responsibly, without harming the environment.

You will find trash and recycling bins at various points along the special stages. Dispose of your trash there, or bring bags to ensure you leave nothing behind. Leave the beautiful forests just as you found them. Lighting fires are strictly forbidden. Even a small mistake, like a cigarette, can cause devastation.
