USA: Charges filed against 58-year-old who attempted to murder Trump

The 58-year-old faces up to 20 years in prison – What he told the judges about his financial situation and his son

Newsroom September 16 06:54

On Monday afternoon (local time), Ryan Wesley Ruth appeared in the Federal Court of Florida. Ruth is accused of attempting to murder Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago golf club.

During the nearly eight-minute hearing, prosecutors charged him with two offenses: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Officials stated that Ruth, aged 58, could face a total prison sentence of 20 years – up to 15 years if convicted on the first charge and a possible five-year sentence for the second charge.

A bail hearing is scheduled for September 23, and a hearing for possible additional – and more serious – charges is set for September 30.

During today’s hearing, Ruth provided standard information to the court regarding his employment status and income. Speaking calmly, he said he works and earns about $3,000 per month but has no savings.

Ruth mentioned that he owns no real estate or other assets, except for two trucks valued at about $1,000 each, which are located in Hawaii. He also noted that he has a 25-year-old son to whom he occasionally sends money for support.
