Panagiotopoulos: Israeli land invasion of Lebanon will cause a wave of millions of refugees

The Minister of Migration Policy stated that the Greek government will seek additional funding if there are significant changes in migration trends

Newsroom September 27 12:30

Nikos Panagiotopoulos issued a message of alarm and high alert from the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives regarding the wave of migrants that will be caused by the deterioration of the war front in Lebanon.

The Minister of Immigration and Asylum said that a possible Israeli land invasion of Lebanon would bring millions of refugees to Greece and the EU.

“If tomorrow we have a conflagration in Lebanon with a land invasion by Israel, there will be a wave of millions of refugees and all strategies will be wasted there. We are preparing as much as we can, but it is not only a matter for Greece, but for Europe, not to mention the Western World in general,” Panagiotopoulos said in response to a topical question by the MP of Victory, Tasos Economopoulos.

The Minister also noted that if the data on the migration front change, the Greek government will request additional funding, while he made clear that “there is no question of mass returns of refugees from Germany to Greece”.
