Mitsotakis’ phone call to Karamanlis and Samaras on New Democracy’s birthday at the Rigillis

The Prime Minister wanted to take this unifying initiative in an effort to change the political "climate" inside the party

Newsroom October 1 12:05

The initiative to invite the two former prime ministers, Kosta Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras, to the governing party‘s birthday event at the Rigillis next Friday was taken yesterday by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, calling the two former Prime Ministers.

Mitsotakis’ relations with the two “exes” are known to be not at their best, but both are an integral part of the party’s history. In this sense, and despite the fact that no personal invitations have been extended to ministers and MPs, the Prime Minister wanted to take this unifying initiative in an effort to change the mood and project the big picture, namely the party’s 50th birthday.

As protothema.gr has written since Sunday, Karamanlis was not against going from the start, although he had not decided. Besides, his family is organically linked to the party, which Constantine Karamanlis founded. Samaras until recently had not told his colleagues what his final decision would be, given his distance from the party leadership. Of course, both former Prime Ministers had put forward the aforementioned big picture and despite their discontent had appeared on the first day of the ND congress last April at Zappeion.
