Kasselakis stands firm on legal notice – Heading toward conflict in SYRIZA’s Central Committee

Stefanos Kasselakis remains resolute on his legal action, despite requests to withdraw it, and calls for an investigation into the asset declaration leak. Meeting tensions rise as top SYRIZA members refuse to attend

Newsroom October 10 02:10

Stefanos Kasselakis continues to uphold the legal notice he sent over the leak of his financial disclosure (πόθεν έσχες), despite pressures from within SYRIZA to retract it. Kasselakis declared that he is “satisfied” with the party’s response so far and will not pursue further legal action against SYRIZA, yet he has requested a formal investigation into how his financial information was leaked.

The meeting at SYRIZA’s headquarters, intended to be a discussion between leadership candidates, was marked by significant absences. Socratis Famellos, Nikos Farantouris, and Apostolos Gletsos refused to attend, citing Kasselakis’s legal notice as the reason. Their condition for participating was the withdrawal of the notice, which Kasselakis did not meet.

Kasselakis, leaving the meeting, reiterated his stance, explaining that he attended without conditions and called for the party to hold a fair and timely congress without any preferential treatment. He expressed satisfaction with the party’s swift reaction to the asset declaration issue, where all five disclosures were released on equal terms, but demanded an investigation into the selective leak that targeted him personally.

Pavlos Polakis: “I Don’t Want to Exclude Anyone; I Want to Win”

After the meeting, Pavlos Polakis stated that he kept his word by attending and contributing to the process leading up to the congress. However, like the other candidates, he had asked Kasselakis to withdraw the legal notice. Polakis confirmed that Kasselakis declined but added that his decision not to pursue further legal action was a positive development.

Polakis noted that, given the circumstances, a meaningful discussion was not possible. “Famellos didn’t come either because he had set the same condition for the withdrawal of the notice,” Polakis added. He went on to emphasize that his vision for SYRIZA is neither a 5% party focused solely on rights nor a minor player in a future government.

Regarding the upcoming Central Committee meeting, where the issue will be discussed, Polakis said it’s “their responsibility,” adding that he will decide his position based on the outcome.
