Fidan: We must boycott Israel, those who support it must pay the price

The Turkish foreign minister spoke of sanctions that "the international community should adopt"

Newsroom October 15 10:28

The time for diplomacy is “over,” Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, calling for moves toward “sanctions” against Israel.

“There’s nothing left for us to say diplomatically, politically…we’re done with that. We need other tools,” Fidan told a conference on the “future of Palestine” being held in Ankara.

“We need to move to sanctions. The international community must take legal measures, we must boycott Israel (which) must no longer receive any support in any sector,” the Turkish diplomatic chief added.

“Otherwise, Israel will continue its genocide and massacres in Gaza, because at the moment it is not paying an economic, political or military price,” noted Fidan, who expressed concern during this conference that the international community’s attention is “being diverted away from Gaza” by Israeli attacks in Lebanon.

“And those who support Israel must also pay the price to understand that there are limits to what they do,” he said.

Turkey severed most of its economic ties with Israel in the spring, but some in the opposition accuse the government of continuing to supply the country with oil under previous agreements.

Fidan received his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, today, who deplored “the incompetence of the international community” while the expansion of the war in Lebanon “pushes the region towards the abyss.”
