Weather: ‘Omega’ brings northerly winds and a drop in temperature – When are showers expected

Cold air masses are coming from eastern and northeastern Europe - EMY forecast until Sunday

Newsroom October 15 07:12

Clear weather is expected today weather in most of the country, with the temperature expected to remain unchanged, reaching 29 degrees Celsius in places in the south.

However, from tomorrow, meteorologists predict a drop in temperature, as the “Omega Bomber” creates favorable conditions for strengthening north winds in the Aegean Sea, which will reach 6 to 7, locally and 8 Beaufort. The same system brings cold air masses from eastern and northeastern Europe. This will result in temperatures dropping to 20 to 23 degrees. It will be quite chilly in central and northern Greece, Clearchos Marousakis stresses in a post.

According to EMY director Thodoros Kolydas, “the presence of the subtropical airmass on the coast of Africa from mid-week onwards will “steer” the upper low of Western Europe towards our region and change the shape of the Oh-Block. This will result in showers, mainly in western Greece during the w

After an almost summer weekend, the new week will gradually adjust to the season’s conditions, according to ERT meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos. As of Wednesday, the north winds will strengthen in the Aegean Sea and the temperature will start to decrease. On Thursday, the mercury will return to normal for the season and will probably be a little lower on the new weekend.

Showers, very little rain is forecast, locally in Macedonia and Thessaly on Thursday. On Friday, as a system from Italy approaches us, it will rain in the west of the country, perhaps even on Saturday, but that is not yet certain. Likely, another system with rain will not arrive in the next ten days.

The weather today

Sunny skies are expected across the country with only a few localised clouds. During the night and early morning visibility will be locally limited, mainly in the Ionian Sea and the mainland.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 3 to 23 degrees, in the rest of northern Greece from 6 to 25-26 degrees, in Thessaly from 8 to 27-28 degrees, in Epirus from 8 to 26-27 degrees, in the rest of the continental parts from 12 to 27-29 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 12 to 26 degrees Celsius, in the North and Northeast Aegean islands from 13 to 25-26 degrees Celsius and in the rest of the Aegean islands and Crete from 16 to 25-27 degrees Celsius.
