Netanyahu to Hamas fighters: Turn in your weapons, surrender your hostages & you will live

"It is a chance for the people of the Gaza Strip to free themselves from Hamas tyranny" Israeli PM says - Israeli President: "The mastermind of the deadly October 7th attack is dead"

Newsroom October 17 09:26

The evil suffered a very heavy blow with the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said in a statement on Thursday (10/17).

Shortly after the Foreign Ministry confirmed that Sinwar is indeed dead, Netanyahu stressed in the statement that his country is working to free the hostages.

“This is the beginning of the day after Hamas and it is an opportunity for you, the residents in Gaza, to finally free yourselves from this tyranny,” he said, referring to Hamas.

Furthermore, Netanyahu stressed that Hamas will never again be able to rule Gaza, and called on the organization’s fighters to surrender. Addressing the militants, he said that “whoever lays down his arms and releases our hostages, we will allow him to live and leave.”

It is recalled that some 100 hostages remain in the hands of Hamas, although it is likely that many are no longer alive.

The Israeli prime minister finally called the war in Gaza the “War of Resurrection,” a name he had proposed in a previous government council.

Israeli President Isaak Herzog called for the return of the hostages

Some time after Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Israel’s president made his own comment.

In particular, Isaac Herzog called Sinwar the mastermind of the deadly October 7th attack. He added that the Hamas leader had been responsible for years for heinous crimes of terrorism against Israeli citizens as well as the murder of thousands of innocent people.

“His evil efforts were aimed at bloodshed and destabilization in the Middle East,” he added.

“Now, more than ever, we must act in every way possible to bring back the 101 hostages who remain under conditions of terror imposed by Hamas in Gaza.”

Israel’s foreign minister confirmed earlier that Yahya Sinwar was killed by IDF soldiers’ gunfire.

In a message to his counterparts around the world, Katz became the first Israeli official to officially announce the neutralization of the Hamas leader.

“Mass murderer Yahya Sinwar, who is responsible for the massacre and atrocities of October 7, was killed today by IDF soldiers,” the Israeli minister was quoted as saying by his office.

“This is a great military and moral achievement for Israel and a victory for the entire free world against the evil axis of radical Islam led by Iran,” he continues.

Katz adds that the killing of Sinwar “creates a possibility” for the immediate release of the hostages and the creation of a Gaza free of Hamas and Iranian control.

“Israel needs your support and assistance now more than ever to jointly advance these important goals,” Katz concluded in his statement.

Meanwhile, a photo circulated online shows IDF soldiers carrying a body, believed to be the Hamas leader, from the building in which he was killed in the southern Gaza town of Rafah.
