Overjoyed are the Mayor of Athens, Charis Doukas, and his wife, Georgia Polytanou, as they tied the knot yesterday at the Church of St. John Kaloktenis in Thebes, the bride’s hometown.

The Mayor of Athens arrived on time at 6:30 PM, greeting around 1,000 guests, while the bride arrived after 7:10 PM, accompanied by her father and brother.

“I’m very happy, we’re waiting for the bride,” the groom remarked as he mingled with the guests outside the church.

The couple’s wedding sponsors were Lazaros Karaoulis, a member of PASOK’s Central Committee and a close associate of the mayor, Ioanna Christopoulou-Konti, a friend of the bride, and Konstantinos Pandis, another close associate of Charis Doukas. The ceremony was officiated by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, along with Metropolitan Georgios of Thebes, Livadia, and Avlida.

The ceremony ended shortly after 8:00 PM, followed by a reception at a venue near Afidnes.

The Reception

The reception took place at the Casa e Campo event space in Afidnes. The newlyweds appeared joyous before their guests, cutting their cake with smiles all around.

Amidst applause, the bride arrived at the church shortly after 7:10 PM, wearing an impressive gown with joy radiating from her face. She shared a tender kiss with her husband, received the bouquet from her beloved Charis Doukas, and they ascended the church steps.

A little after 8:00 PM, the ceremony concluded, and the newlyweds exited the church in high spirits, where guests showered them with rice.
