Harsh criticism from Haris Doukas’ circle against Androulakis and Diamantopoulou: PASOK’s choices don’t reflect unity

Sources close to the mayor of Athens claim "strategic and political planning cannot be a one-person body directed towards one political direction"

Newsroom October 21 06:10

Haris Doukas has issued strong criticism against the leadership of PASOK regarding the party’s internal “reshuffle” and its parliamentary group. Through his associates, Doukas emphasized that the choices made by PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis “unfortunately do not convey a sense of unity and fail to promote the necessary collaborations and compromises.”

Doukas, a key contender against Androulakis in the recent internal party elections, also criticized Anna Diamantopoulou, who was recently appointed as head of Political Strategy. Through his associates, Doukas pointed out that “strategic and political planning cannot be a one-person body driven in one political direction,” hinting—according to PASOK insiders—that Diamantopoulou cannot represent the entirety of PASOK.

The mayor of Athens, who met with the PASOK leader earlier, accepted Androulakis’ proposal to join the Political Center, the new informal body at Charilaou Trikoupi. Doukas referenced that this new body’s creation was part of his pre-election pledge. However, he did not hesitate to highlight that two other key figures—Michalis Katrinis and Nadia Giannakopoulou, who were also candidates in the first round of the internal elections—were excluded from the Political Center.

The statement from Doukas’ associates is as follows:

“Haris Doukas accepted the proposal from President Nikos Androulakis to participate in PASOK’s ‘Coordinating Political Center,’ as its creation was his pre-election commitment.

However, we must point out that the final composition of the body does not include all the candidates (as was Doukas’ initial proposal), which would have demonstrated unity in practice.

Strategic and political planning cannot be a one-person body directed toward one political direction.

Unfortunately, the overall choices, the roles, the structures, and the positions in the party and parliament do not reflect the spirit of unity and fail to foster the necessary collaborations and compromises.

In any case, we continue on the path of unity and PASOK’s victorious course.”
