Club on Vouliagmenis avenue: How alcohol reaches minors – Employee at nightclub speaks out

Nightlife worker reveals how event organizers distribute alcohol freely at parties – Mayor Haris Doukas pushes for bar closure

Newsroom October 29 04:35

In the aftermath of a party at a club on Vouliagmenis Avenue that ended with intoxicated students hospitalized, reports have emerged detailing the school-related events at nightclubs that often lead to similar situations.

According to reports, scenes of panic unfolded outside the club around midnight on Saturday as ambulances transported eight intoxicated minors in critical condition. This incident reportedly repeated itself the previous night.

The group organizing this ill-fated party also hosted an event at the same club on Friday, where several underage students left in poor condition due to excessive alcohol consumption.

This group is one of the most popular event organizers, arranging parties with well-known trap artists for high schools in the Athens area.

How Alcohol Bottles Are Distributed and Profits Made

An employee at a nightclub, who has worked with this group, explained to Protothema.gr how members of this organization rent tables from clubs and handle alcohol bottle service directly to the students. Part of their earnings comes from commissions on each bottle sold, with no distinction made between adult and minor customers.

“I know from people who work there that on Friday, schools from Nikaia, Korydallos, and Piraeus had parties, and it was the same situation—intoxicated kids, and an ambulance was called for one student but later canceled. This was the same as Saturday. The event group paid over €14,000 to rent the club space for both nights and had booked live performances with trap artists. This group not only handles invitations but also earns commission per bottle. They coordinate with student councils to determine how many bottles to allocate to each high school class, not just seniors, and they take a cut on each bottle,” the source said.

“This happens because if a single school tries to book a club event on its own, the venue is restricted to serving only non-alcoholic beverages and soft drinks,” he added.

Following the media uproar, the event organizers removed stories and photos from the controversial parties on their social media accounts. It’s also noted that the individual responsible for the party is only 20 years old and has earned a reputation as the group’s “scapegoat.”

Doukas: “I will recommend the closure of the bar where minors became intoxicated on Vouliagmenis avenue”

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas reacted to the incident, announcing his plan to propose the bar’s closure at the upcoming city council meeting. “We will take strong action against any illegality in Athens, regardless of who is involved. Tomorrow, I will propose the closure of this specific bar on Vouliagmenis Avenue at the Municipal Council,” he stated.
