A state of alert has been declared in Ilioupoli after an armed man barricaded himself in his home, threatening to take his own life.

According to initial reports, his wife had asked him for a divorce yesterday. Today, the man returned home drunk and armed with a hunting rifle, threatening both his wife and their daughter.

The wife and child managed to escape the house, and the couple’s daughter reportedly alerted the authorities.

Police forces and a negotiator quickly arrived at the scene, while the streets Archimidous and Demosthenous have been closed off.
